On Sunday, October 24, the historic 1868 Erben organ at St Patrick's Old
Cathedral received an OHS citation. As special postlude music after the service, Cathedral Organist Jared Lamenzo performed Mozart's "Exultate, Jubilate" with a soprano and followed it with the Prelude and Final from Vierne's First Symphony. I was turning pages and pulling stops for the Vierne, whose interpretation by Jared showed off the Erben's many wonderful colors. Jared is a student of Dr. William F. Entriken and is Organ Scholar at First Presbyterian Church. After the mini-recital the OHS crowd ascended upon the organ and most everyone took turns playing. Then came the crawl and photography inside the instrument.
Jared is doing a fantastic job trying to get recognition and funding
for the Erben. His website contains a section on the organ and his
activities in securing the future of this magnificent instrument.
